Tooth discolouration can result from a number of factors, such as eating habits, smoking or the use of certain medications. Sometimes, even root canal treatment can lead to a change in the colour of the tooth. In our office, we offer two modern whitening methods to achieve a beautiful white smile: PrevDent in-office whitening and overlay whitening.

Types of Teeth Whitening

PrevDent in-practice whitening – is an advanced in-office whitening method that not only effectively brightens teeth, but also restores enamel. Using the unique PrevDent system, the treatment is safe for teeth and gums and the whitening effect is visible immediately after the session.

Overlay whitening – the overlay method involves wearing customised trays with a whitening preparation at home. The patient receives the trays and four syringes with the preparation, which should be applied as recommended by the dentist. Although this method takes longer than in-office whitening, it is comfortable and effective.

What does an in-practice whitening treatment look like?

In-office whitening begins with a thorough cleaning of the teeth. Then, a whitening preparation is applied to the surface of the teeth and the whole procedure is irradiated with a specialised whitening lamp. The whole process takes about 45 minutes and the effects are visible immediately after the treatment.

Overlay whitening is based on the systematic use of overlays at home. Thanks to the carefully fitted splints, the process is comfortable and the effects are visible after a few days of use.

What happens after the treatment?

The whitening effect can last 2 to 3 years, but much depends on the patient’s habits and diet. In the first few days after the treatment, it is important to follow a so-called ‘white diet’ and avoid staining drinks such as coffee, tea or red wine. It is also important to use specialised tooth care products after whitening to help maintain the effect for longer.
