Dental microscope
Microscope for Root Canal Treatment
The microscope has been used in dentistry relatively recently. The function of the microscope is to significantly magnify and illuminate the treatment field. It helps to identify previously undetectable structures, distinguish pathological tissue from healthy tissue, makes it possible to visualise the mouths of root canals, see narrowing, obliteration and perforation. Magnification makes it easier to check the quality of the treatment performed.

What's the use of a dental microscope?
One of the dentist’s essential tools is his or her eyesight. Unfortunately, the treatment field has a surface area of a few millimetres, and treatment often involves structures the size of tenths of a millimetre, so it becomes impossible to carry out precise treatment without the use of appropriate magnification and a strongly, evenly and uniformly illuminated treatment field. A treatment microscope becomes an indispensable working tool.
Endodontics under the microscope - Precision root canal treatment at the highest level
Endodontics under the microscope is a specialised treatment that is not offered in every dental practice. The treatment microscope enables treatment to the highest standards and, when carried out correctly, root canal treatment can save a tooth at risk of extraction.
The microscope allows the exact location of the canal orifices, which often remain invisible to the naked eye. The number of canals and their course through the root of a tooth are highly variable, and leaving a canal uncleaned can lead to recurrence of inflammation and the onset of pain. Obliterations, i.e. partial closure of the canal lumen, are also common. Their unblocking without visual inspection can lead to dangerous complications, such as perforations – punctures of the root canal walls. Working under magnification reduces the risk of complications, as it allows visual control of the area in which the doctor is working.
Microscope in Dentistry - Precise treatment of complications
Thanks to the optical system of the microscope, it is also possible to treat complications that can occur during endodontic treatment. Closing a root perforation and removing a broken file are very precise procedures and require a high degree of technical skill on the part of the doctor. However, without high magnification, it would be impossible to visualise the perforation hole, find the broken tool fragment and then remove them and properly secure the root canal lumen.
In addition to endodontic treatment, the microscope is also used in dentistry:
- Root Canal Treatment (endodoncy)
- Periodontal treatment (periodontics)
- Treatment of tooth decay. Using the microscope, it is possible to carry out a very thorough inspection of the dentition (catching carious lesions at an early stage, especially on the tangent surfaces of the teeth), prepare each carious cavity (thoroughly clean the tooth without disturbing healthy tissue)
- Implant treatment
- Prosthetics treatment
