X-ray 3D - Tomograph CBCT

CBCT 3D

Volumetric tomography , Cone Beam Tomography are the names of tomography for dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics and ENT. The image that is produced by a conventional X-ray examination is two-dimensional – 2D. A 2D image of a three-dimensional structure such as a head or tooth gives information on the height and width of the object, but lacks depth information. As a result, the structures overlap. The 2D image is often deformed and does not reflect the imaged object on a scale of 1:1. This causes problems of interpretation and can lead to errors in diagnosis and treatment planning.

With virtual 3D reconstructions, it is possible to plan a treatment and then perform it in an analogous manner. Moreover, it is possible to see all anatomical structures from any angle, without distortion or overlapping details. It is an examination in which it is possible to visualise soft tissues and bony structures at the same time, to analyse precisely the course of important structures such as nerves, blood vessels, tooth roots, the position of nasal sinuses. This reduces complications during the actual treatment.

Our patients are better informed. With clear 3D imaging, seeing, understanding and accepting the proposed treatment process becomes much easier.

What can one CBCT examination replace

  • intraoral dental radiographs
  • panoramic X-rays
  • cephalometric radiographs
  • occlusal radiographs
  • photographs of the temporomandibular joint

The processing of CBCT data provides us with more information than the images shown below combined.

Preparation for a CBCT test

  • Before the examination, patients are asked to remove their glasses, jewellery (earrings, chains, pendants), pins and hair pins. Removal of removable dentures or removable orthodontic appliances is required. Fixed orthodontic and prosthetic appliances are not removed. There is no need to take out the contents of your pocket, remove your watch or turn off your phone.
  • Before the examination, patients wear a protective apron and the parts the patient will touch are covered with disposable film.
  • During the examination, the patient is in a standing or sitting position. People with disabilities can be examined in their wheelchairs.
  • The examination lasts approximately 10 seconds.

The benefits of 3D imaging go beyond implantology - it is used for everyday diagnostics

  • In endodontics ( root canal treatment). Highly detailed images with a resolution of up to 75 μm visualise the anatomy of the tooth. They make it possible to find additional root canals, fractures, cracks and damaged fragments of endodontic instruments. The precise three-dimensional image confirms or excludes the presence of a lesion.
  • Periodontology.
  • Planning surgical, extraction and other operations.
  • Allows avoidance of exploratory surgery.
